David Mark didn't buy any car for Tuface & Annie - S.A

According to a statement released by Senator David Mark's Senior Adviser on Media, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, Senator David Mark has denied giving Tuface a car gift after his wedding in Dubai on Saturday.
Here's the statement Mr Kola released, in an interview with CKN Nigeria:

Senator Mark did not visit Dubai for Tuface's wedding rather he attended the 128th Inter parliamentary Union (IPU) conference currently holding in Quito, Ecuador. He was also not represented at Mr. Idibia's wedding.

It is also instructive to state that the President of the Senate, Senator Mark, did not make a car donation of any kind to Tuface before departing Nigeria for Ecuador neither did he purchase nor send any car to Dubai as a wedding gift for the musician or his wife.

Who made the donation on behalf of the President of the Senate?

It is therefore a puerile lie for anybody to state that Senator Mark bought a Ferrari car worth N47m for Tuface. The allegation is wicked, ridiculous and irresponsible.

Signed: Kola Ologbondiyan
Special Adviser, Media & Publicity to the President of the Senate David Mark

#But the tag on the car seems very clear to me with the caption "Wedding gift from Senator David Mark to Tuface and Annie" ok maybe that's photoshop right?

BREAKING NEWS: FG withdraws Dana Air Operating licence

While the dust raised by the Federal Government’s  removal of the director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Dr Harold Demuren is yet to settle, news filtered into the industry on Saturday night that government had also revoked the Air Operators Certificate of Dana Air.
With the withdrawal of the airlines’ certificate, it has become impossible for the embattled carrier to continue flight operations.
The latest development may not be unconnected with the recommendations of the National Assembly after their investigations on the June 3rd, 2012 crash of an MD 83 aircraft belonging to Dana Air at Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos State which claimed over 163 lives on board the plane and on ground.
Both the House of Representatives and Senate had earlier in the year passed a resolution asking the Federal Government to revoke the operating licence of Dana Air and to remove the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, among other things, based on the report of the committee on the investigation carried out on the 2012 Dana crash.
while all those called on phone to confirm the story declined, a  top official in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) who spoke on a condition of anonymity confirmed the withdrawal of Dana’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

Nigerian embassy in Senegal attacked; Envoy states reason

The Monday March 4, 2013 attack on Nigerian Embassy building in Dakar, Senegal was as a result of alleged disappearance of death body of a Nigerian from a hospital morgue, Nigerian Ambassador to Senegal,  said Mrs. Katyen Jackden.
Speaking before members of the House of Representatives committee on Foreign Affairs yesterday in Abuja, Mrs. Jackden said the body of a Nigerian by name Kingsley Irogbulam was said to have disappeared from a hospital’s morgue in Dakar.
According to Jackden, Mr Irogbulam was allegedly pushed out of a moving taxi about October last year, an action that led to the arrest of five persons already facing trial in Dakar, but that when the burial committee, headed by one Pastor Vitalis Ugor made efforts to recover his body for burial in February, it was curiously informed that the body had been disposed of.
She further disclosed that on getting the information, the embassy responded by urging the Senegalese authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the killing and also approved CFA95,000 (about US $200) to assist the burial committee procure a casket as well as pay the grave diggers and transport the body for burial.
She said the enraged Nigerians reportedly broke into Nigeria’s embassy building, attack staff members, as well desecrating the Nigerian flag and destroyed other property, after subduing the security guards at the gate.
“If we do not use Senegal (the incident) as an example, it will happen elsewhere. There must be a disincentive for that,” said Rep. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje who chairs the Foreign Affairs committee.

Commentary: what the election of Pope Francis means for the Church

Pope Francis: the perks of being elected Pontiff
Pope Francis asked first for the blessing of the crowd in St Peter's Square before delivering his own

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio makes Christianity compelling. Luke Coppen, editor of The Catholic Herald, analyses what his election means for the Church.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio has looked like an obvious choice for pope since he reportedly came second in the balloting to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in 2005 - but he kept such a low profile that few commentators saw him as a leading candidate in 2013.
Clearly he enjoyed the deep respect of the world's cardinals, who must have voted for him in significant numbers from the very first ballot. He was elected tonight on the fifth vote, suggesting a massive groundswell of support in the College of Cardinals.
As he showed in his first address this evening, he is a man of great humility, asking first for the blessing of the crowd in St Peter's Square before he delivered his own.
His choice of the name "Francis" evokes St Francis of Assisi, the Italian mystic who received a call from God to "rebuild my Church". Pope Francis must believe that it is his task to rebuild a Church that has been profoundly damaged by abuse scandals and corruption within the Roman Curia.
The Jesuits have often been seen as an alternative power base to the papacy in the Catholic Church. With the election of the first Jesuit as pope, these two bases have been united for the first time in history.
Like any pope, his task is to conserve the Catholic faith, rather than alter it, so he is unlikely to effect any of the changes commonly cited by the media: approving contraception, making priestly celibacy voluntary or ordaining women.
But he will surely surprise us with his spontaneity, unstuffiness and evident personal holiness.
When I read about him in preparation for the 2005 conclave I was touched the stories of him washing the feet of Aids patients and living humbly among the poor in Buenos Aires. Many thought the cardinals would elect a kind of management consultant pope who would turn the Curia into an efficient bureaucracy. They have chosen, instead, a simple and holy man, who makes Christianity seem compelling because he so clearly lives it out.

Mr. President made the statement while reacting to the call by the Borno Elders Forum of the withdrawal of JTF Borno state.

On the removal of JTF, Jonathan said, “If anyone of you (referring to Borno Elders) wants the Federal Government to withdraw JTF troops from the state, he should come and sign an agreement that if anybody is killed after signing the document, I will hold you responsible according to the law of the land; I assure you that before I go back to Abuja all the JTF troops will leave the state."

Ogun Assembly Update: Scores settled, New Question

Governor Ibikunle Amosun with members of Ogun state House of Assembly
Information reaching me some minutes ago has it that the crisis rocking the Ogun House of Assembly (Click here if you missed it) has been settled by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and peace has been restored to the house.
I want to belief this is true and I pray it stands, but the question now is where are we going to get another MACE? How are they going to be conveying sittings without the symbol of authority? If they do, does any resolution passed become a law or it would be just a mere suggestion. hehe, oya let's see the what message they will now be passing to the masses.
One thing is sure, if they are able to make law without the symbol, God forbid what might happen later in the future as a result.
Lastly, I just hope this fight won't repeat itself very soon!

Baby cured of HIV: New Hope, New Question

A toddler born in July 2010 has been 'functionally cured' of the deadly virus she was born with.

The Mississippi toddler was treated with aggressive HIV therapy within 30 hours of delivery and continued for 18 months. She is now considered cured of her infection, a team of researchers led by Dr. Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, said in a news conference at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Atlanta on Sunday.

The remarkable case of the baby being cured of HIV infection in the United States using readily available drugs has raised new hope for eradicating the infection in infants worldwide, though scientists are still saying it will take a lot more research and much more sensitive diagnostics before this hope becomes a reality.

Dr. Hanna Gay who spear headed the girls treatment said she was surprise and panic to see the result even though the girl has not taken any medication for the past 5 months and now tested negative to HIV.

Governor of Enugu state, Barrister Sullivan Chime
Governor of Enugu state, Barrister Sullivan Chime who recently returned to a tumultuous welcome from a medical trip abroad was in the early hours of Sunday flown to London, United Kingdom on similar health ground.

A Source who is privy to the happenings at the Enugu state Government house said the governor had to be flown back to London when his health condition which he had earlier gone to treat became worse. He was reported to have been sneaked from the Enugu government house enroute the London hospital.

The source added that Governor Chime had not fully recovered from his ailment when he was hurriedly discharged from his hospital bed in London and returned to Nigeria. This, the source said was done to douse down the tension arising from his long absence from the state, a development that heated the polity in Enugu state.

The governor had returned to Nigeria in February, after spending 139 days in a London hospital where he was being treated for cancer. He was reported to have sent a correspondence to the Enugu state House of Assembly that he was embarking on an accumulated leave, but was later discovered to be medical trip to London.
