Celebrating Nigeria's Democracy: What People has to say

Today being the Nigeria's "uninterrupted"  Democracy clocks 14years and alot of argument has been in the air as to whether this is worth celebrating considering the situation of the country. I try to figure out what soem of my friends has to say about this and here are some of the Status update some of my friends put up about celebrating democracy today. Read on and enjoy.  + permit me, I won't be quoting any name here...
A friend wrote: Rather than wish Nigerians happy democracy day, I'll congratulate you for being a successful government to yourselves, family and community. Don't ask me why, but in case you wonder why, it's quite simply to understand. You build or rent a house and put a burglary proof, that has made you a police to your family. You dig a borehole to have steady water supply, that has made you a family water board. If you purchase a generating set, solar panel or inverter You have usurped the duty PHCN.. Alot of ppl ve died all in d name of Boko Haram and Terrorism yet u're still alive it shows u're d Chief of Army staff on ur own. Now tell me if that does not qualify one to be a governmentHAPPY SURVIVAL DAY FELLOW CITIZEN
Another friend says: Democracy my foot!
Is it not those who enjoy the largesse with our so-called rulers that are in the frenzie alone?
Soon we'll know who's deceiving who......
Yet another friend: Waking up this morning to know that we are celebrating Democracy in Nigeria.
It sounds ridiculous,jovial,sarcastic and comical.
In a country were every sector of the economy is dead,a country were our leaders steal tax payers money with reckless abandon,a country were hatred, corruption and injustice is the motto of the ruling class,a country were 70% of the states are under military control,a country were the rich becomes richer and the poor becomes poorer,a country were funds meant for old, dying civil retirees are stolen & yet the culprits are moving around the Federal Corruption Territory (FCT) in luxury cars,a country were ours girls have turned to sex workers just to earn a living,a country were 99% of youths are unemployed & all our leaders o is to build roads and come on National Media houses to boast of their transformation of the Nation. This is just to mention a few and say the least.
God Bless the FRN,God Bless Nigerians.
Goodmorning Fellas!.
#WeepingForMyGeneration#.
Not everybody have thesame view about the topic in question so here is what another friend wrote: @DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION: A child they say does not start to walk the same day he is born, He grows daily and crawls then later start walking. Many like me argue the fact that Nigeria's Democracy at 14years is Old enough to have delivered so much greatness to her people, but while we try to keep asking for the Government of the day to sit up and take this nation to her promise land, let me wish all Nigerians Happy Democracy Day Celebration. We might not be there, but we are sure not where we use to be. God Bless you all and God bless Nigeria.
I'll just limit it to these four entries, I guess it's much enough to summarize what is in the minds of Nigerians, Young & Old, Male and Female.
God Bless Nigeria

President Jonathan says his name has brought good luck to Nigeria: You agree?

President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday Saturday May 25th that his first name has brought some good luck to Nigeria.  yesterday, the president said:
"Traditional societies attach some values to names. That is why people select good names for their children. In the scriptures sometimes, when God sends you on some special assignment, He could even direct, ‘change the name of this child from this to that. But the name in itself does not make much difference because even from my village, there is one of my peers that also answers Goodluck.  Another one that is a little older than me answers Lucky from my small village and I didn’t see the good luck and lucky in them.
“In terms of bringing my name to bear in Nigerian affairs, within this period, we have our challenges. Of course, you are aware that we have our security challenges. But in spite of the security challenges, the country is moving on. I will say yes, it (his name) brought some good luck to the country.”

Buhari Asks Jonathan To Resign For Killing Boko Haram Members.

**Jonathan is killing Boko haram members instead to given them money and training as was done to N/Delta Militants.
**he should vacate Aso Rock and give way to competent hand to govern the country.

Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office for his inability to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
“Jonathan should vacate and give way to competent hand to govern the country”, he said.
Speaking to newsmen in his residence in Daura town yesterday, General Buhari said the issue of security is a fundamental duty of any responsible government, but Jonathan failed to protect the lives and the properties of Nigerians since he assumed power.

“When the Niger Delta militants started their activities in the South-South, they were invited by the late President Umaru Yar’adua.
An aircraft was sent to them and their leaders met with the late President in Aso Rock and discussed issues. They were given money and a training scheme was introduced for their members. But when the Boko Haram emerged in the north members of the sect were killed,” General Buhari lamented.
“And when the police failed to address the insurgency, soldiers were invited and they captured the Boko Haram leader, Muhammad Yusuf alive and handed him over to police. But Yusuf was eventually killed, his in-law too was killed and their houses were demolished”, he said.

He said the murder of the Boko Haram leader however provoked his followers and that was what led the country to its present situation. He suggested that government should adopt a new approach that will end the insurgency without affecting the lives and properties of innocent people.

PDP governors are best - says Bamanga Tukur

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur, on Tuesday, said the party’s 23 state governors were the best in the country as they have performed better than their contemporaries in other parties.

The PDP boss boasted that the PDP governors remain the best among their colleagues in the country, adding that they have landmark achievements to show for their tenures. He said that he had personally visited some of the PDP-controlled states to assess the spate of development and realized that the party’s governors are not comparable to those of other parties in terms of performance.

Mr. Tukur listed the areas the PDP governors acted superbly as education, infrastructure, agriculture, rural development, power generation, transportation and aviation, which he said were based on the party’s manifesto.

He said, “The best performing governors are in PDP, no doubt. I took note of this during the reconciliation tour we made, and I also got reports on their day-to-day performances and to me, we must give the PDP the credit.”

He, however, asked governors to work hard and be more committed to public good in preparation for the 2015 general elections.

3 soldiers, several gunmen killed in Daura attack – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army on Friday confirmed that three soldiers were killed in an attack by gunmen in Daura, Katsina State.

Maj. Gen. Garba Wahab, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, who disclosed this to newsmen in Kaduna, said several of the attackers were also killed.

He said that the army and other security personnel had cordoned off three areas in the city and were conducting a house-to-house search “to fish out some of the wounded gunmen who forced their way into peoples’ homes’’’.

He also said that the army was coordinating with security agencies in Niger Republic as “80 to 90 per cent of these gun men are not Nigerians’’.

Wahab said the gunmen had attacked four banks and stole some money, adding that a vehicle loaded with the stolen cash was recovered, in addition to four AK-47 rifles.

He said that the operation to fish out the culprits was ongoing, and advised residents of Daura and the neighbouring local government areas of Baure, Sandamu, Mashi, and Dutsi to cooperate with security agents by reporting suspicious movements around them.

“What happened this morning is similar to what happened in Bama where the gunmen burnt prison and police stations to divert attention,’’ he said.

Wahab appealed to journalists to support security agencies in the fight against terror, saying it was the collective responsibility of all well-meaning Nigerians to work for the peace and stability of the nation.

“Let us stop patronising criminality. Whether they are terrorists or armed bandits, the truth is that they are against the Nigerian state, and that is the bottom line’,’’ he added. (NAN)

Oh no! Nigerian Air Force Jet Crashes, Two Dead

Nigerian Air Force jet
A Nigerian fighter jet taking part in military operations against al Qaeda-linked Islamic militants in Mali crashed in western Niger, killing its two crew, Niger and Nigerian officials said on Monday.

The incident marked the first casualties in Mali for Nigerian troops, which form the largest contingent in a West African regional force participating in the French-led campaign to drive Islamist rebels from the country's desert north, reports Reuters.

Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force, said the plane was an Alpha jet stationed in Niger as part of a Nigerian squadron supporting the mission in Mali.

"An investigation is going on to find out what happened. They were on a normal routine flight about 60 km (37 miles) west of Niamey when something happened," Anas told Reuters.

Asked if there was any evidence of anti-aircraft fire, he said: "We don't know but it was inside Nigerien territory."

A Niger security source said the jet crashed near Dargol in the Tillabery region which borders Mali.
"The plane was not shot at. It was not in enemy territory so for now we are looking at maybe a mechanical problem," another security official from Niger, who asked not to be identified, said.
